Because art opens the imagination, it reveals to us what we cannot see. Because art can foment change by stirring the heart from within, as a sculptor, I am a citizen. My work addresses, fundamentally, the possibilities of transforming our Cartesian paradigm - a paradigm that is both personal and cultural and which enthrones separation and destruction as ways of being. My recent work focuses more on intra-personal transformation as the vehicle for socio-political transformation than in past work. In each sculpture I seek to bring paradoxical formal elements into a unified whole. It is my intention that each pieces exist as meditation on rather than an answer to transformation.
The materials I use are both substance and symbol though all are ordinary. Most I have found and manipulated, having removed them from their original context in order to reside in another construct of my making. The love that I have for these materials and the various processes I use to work with them is about polishing the beauty of the mundane; about finding the sacredness in the profane.
